Protesters of new Kyrgyz government take over local office
Protesters of the new Kyrgyz interim government have taken over local government office in the southern city of Osh, the country’s second biggest city. Followers of ousted Kyrgzystan president, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, staged a rally in the city and then entered the building.
“Some of the protesters demanded that the parliament’s power is restored,” said human rights activist Toktoaim Umetaliyeva.
President Kurmanbek Bakiyev was overthrown after unrests and clashes, occurred early in April, resulting in mass killings: at least 80 people were reported dead; hundreds were injured. The opposition established a new interim government with one of the oppositional leaders, ex-foreign minister Roza Otunbayeva, on the head. The new government met the first large protests on Wednesday.
