Varujan Hakobian performs good start at US Chess Champs
The 2010 U.S. Chess Championship has been kicked off with a special opening ceremony at the Old Post Office Plaza downtown, in Saint Louis. Among contestants are Grand Masters Varujan Hakobian, Melikset Khachikian and the International Master Levon Altunian.
In round one Varujan Hakobian played in draw with Fayndolg, Levon Altunian’s set with Kudrin ended in draw as well; Melikset Khachikian with black won over Lenderman.
Round two brought draw to Levon Altunian and Yuri Shulman; Varujan Hakobian won over Krai, and Khachikian lost to Gata Kamsky.
In round three Varujan Hakobian again won in set with Irina Frush; Melikset Khachikian lost to Robert Guess; Levon Altunian lost to Alexander Stripansky.
The three rounds brought 3,5 points to Hakobian, while Altunian and Khachinian scored a point each.
