Iran interested in North-South Highway project

Armenia’s Minister of Transport and Communications Manouk Vardanian hosted Wednesday Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Ali Sagayan, the Ministry spokesperson said.

Manouk Vardanian said that the large scale road-building works will start in Armenia, among them the first stage of the construction works of the North-South Highway.

Iranian Ambassador said that there are Iranian companies, interested in the project. Minister Vardanian, in his part, said that the Asian Development Bank is also interested in the project as well as China and Russia. However, only after special studies it would be possible to talk about financial resources and investments.

The parties discussed issues of road communications between Iran and Armenia, and paid an attention to the recent landslides on the road. Minister Vardanian said that special activities are carried out to prevent such incidents, including restoration works and installation of the signs.
