Russia authorises charter flights from Tbilisi to Moscow
The private Georgian carrier, Georgian Airwaves, has received approval from the Russian Transport Ministry to conduct direct charter flights between Tbilisi and Moscow since Monday. The flights will be conducted from May 24 to June 9, Russia media reported.
“The permit came partly, the flights will be conducted within the period from May 24 to June 9,” Interfax quoted the Press Office of the Russian Transport Ministry.
In April, Georgian Airwaves sent a request to the Russian Transport Ministry for approval of some 12 direct charter flights between Tbilisi and Moscow within the period from late May to early July, Russian media reported.
Direct flights between Tbilisi and Moscow were halted in 2006 after tensions had aroused between the two countries. The flights were resumed for a short time in 2008, but were suspended again after a five-day war in August of that same year.
