Armenian boxers perform a successful start at European Champs
The European Boxing Championship started in Moscow on June 5 gathering together participants from various countries, among them Armenia. It’s expected that Russia’s key rivals to fight for the champion title are Italy and Ukraine.
Armenian team’s Artur Khachatrian (in the 81 kg) performed a successful start and won 13:3 over Greece’s Ioanisu Militopolsu, following the 7:2 victory over Azerbaijan’s Ramazan Magomedov in the first round.
The European champion Tsolak Ananikian (in the 91 kg) won over Pole Mateush Malouyda, and the European champion of 2009 Karen Aylazian (in the 54 kg) lost to Irish boxer John Nevin.
A spokesperson to the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Armenia said that 5 more Armenian boxers entered the ring, of these 4 took a victory and were qualified for the next stage. Team’s two boxers were overcome and had to leave the tournament.
Hovhannes Danielian and Ara Puluzian’s entering in the ring is still expected, both boxers are in the 48 kg; Derenik Gijlarian (in the 51 kg) won 16:4 over Hungarian Norbert Kaluza; bronze medalist of the 2008 Olympic Games, Hrachia Javakhian (in the 64 kg) won 11:2 over Alexander Vasiliev from Finland. Samvel Matevosian in the 69 kg weight category lost 0:18 to France’s boxer Alexis Vastine.
World Vice-Champion Andranik Hakobian (in the 75 kg) won 13:2 over Croat Sanyn Paul Vroch.
