Iranian President not among attendees at SCO summit in Tashkent
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is currently on a visit to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, will not participate in the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) which is reported to take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on June 10-11, told RIA Novosti Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ali Asghar Sherdust.
Iranian Ambassador didn’t give a detailed comment on the decision; however, he said that Iranian leader Ahmadinejad is leaving for Shanghai on Wednesday evening to participate in the EXPO-2010.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental mutual-security organisation which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Iran, Pakistan, India and Mongolia hold observer status in SCO while Belarus and Sri Lanka hold status of interlocutors since this year’s April.
