Greece may protest against Turkey
Greece may file an official protest against Turkey over a dangerously low overflight of Turkish fighter jets above a Greek frigate in international waters, RIA Novosti reported citing the Greek military officials.
According to a report by the Greek Navy, two Turkish F-4 Phantom interceptor/fighter jets flew 150 meters (500 feet) above the Salamis frigate, which took part in military exercises between the islands of Chios and Samos in the eastern part of the Aegean Sea. Greek officials pointed that there were 7 Turkish planes in total. It’s reported that senior Greek military officials were on board during the exercises; however, it’s not clear whether they were on board when the incident happened.
The Foreign Ministry of Greece is expected to file an official protest against Ankara.
It’s worth mentioning that there are continuous tensions between Greece and Turkey over the Aegean Sea. Greece has been accusing Turkey of violating the air borders and zones of responsibility.
