Princess Diana’s famous black gown sold at auction in London
A famous black gown worn by Lady Diana Spencer on one of her first official engagements was sold at auction in London yesterday. It fetched 192,000 pounds ($276,000) - nearly four times the high-end estimate, and was bought by the Chilean fashion museum (Museo de la Moda). The price includes the buyer's premium.
Diana’s dress was part of a collection that includes the blouse Diana wore for her official engagement portrait in 1981, and the cotton toile prototype of her wedding gown designed by Elizabeth Emanuel and her then-husband David. Also for sale were sketches, notes, invoices connected with Diana’s wedding to Prince Charles, including the handbag Emanuel carried to the event at St. Paul's Cathedral on July 29th of 1981.
