US and France to talk with Moscow about Georgia, says Saakashvili
First round of official visits of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to Paris at the invitation French President Nicolas Sarkozy, ended on June 8, Tuesday.
Georgian officials consider this visit to be not occasional as it was paid ahead of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Puton’s visit to France that planned for June 11, Newsru.com reported. Experts and analysts say that this marks some kind of “light thaw” in relations between France and Georgia. In addition, Saakashvili’s visit determines agenda for talks between Sarkozy and Putin aimed at fulfillment of Russia’s obligations and agreements on withdrawal of Russian troops from territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia after conflict in 2008, Kommersant paper reports.
Georgian President Saakashvili, in his part, told French reporters that he considers item of Georgia to be one of the key issues of the agenda of talks within the framework of US President Barack Obama’s upcoming visit to Moscow.
