Turkey and Arab states to set free trade zone
Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan have agreed to an Arab free trade zone, local media reported.
The agreement’s goal is to improve economic relations between the parties. According to Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Turkey aims to create a free trade zone without visa restrictions with Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.
“We want a vehicle to be able to leave Turkey and reach Morocco without stopping at any border gates,” Ahmet Davutoglu told the Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum, taking place in Istanbul. He added that the organisation is not “an alternative to the European Union.” He said Turkey is still seeking for accession to the EU and added that this can’t be in the road of improving relations with neighboring countries.
