Turkish retired generals freed
Turkish courts on Friday ordered the release from jail of three retired generals and a prosecutor who were allegedly involved in separate plots to topple the government, AFP reported citing Anatolia news agency.
An Istanbul court ruled for the release of retired generals Cetin Dogan, Engin Alan and Suha Tanyeri who are accused of a purported 2003 coup plan, after lawyers objected to their incarceration, Anatolia said. Eleven other suspects were also released.
The source reported that in another ruling, the Appeal Court in Ankara ordered the release of Ilhan Cihaner, the chief prosecutor of the eastern city of Erzincan, on grounds that the evidence against him did not justify his detention during his trial which began in May.
