Armenia attaches great importance to relations with neighbors
“Armenia attaches great importance to its relations with those neighboring states who deal with Armenia on the basis of friendly cooperation,” Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told Yuri Simonian in his interview with Nezavisimaya Gazeta when asked to comment Armenia’s relations with neighboring Iran and Georgia.
Edward Nalbandian stressed that Armenia and Iran traditionally have friendly relations. “We implement various mutually beneficial projects, in particularly, in sphere of energy and transport. And new economical projects are on agenda. We are closely watching the developments related to the Iranian nuclear program and we stand for resolving the disputes through negotiations. We hope that Iran’s further efforts and those of the international community will result in agreement on the issue,” said Nalbandian.
In response to Yuri Simonian’s commentary that there were “small but sensitive issues between Armenia and Georgia”, Edward Nalbandian said that “there are not such kind of issues which the sides are unable to resolve making joint efforts.”
“Armenia is one of the countries which are strongly interested in stable, secure and prosperous Georgia. And the reasons is not only those that nearly 70% of our turnover goes via Georgia and there lives a large Armenian Community in Georgia, but because of centuries-long friendly and good-neighbor relations,” said Armenian Foreign Minister.
