Iran against deployment of US peacekeepers in Karabakh zone
Iran is against the deployment of the US peacekeeping forces in the zone of the Karabakh conflict, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Ali Saghayan is quoted as saying.
“There is information from some sources that the US peacekeepers will probably be deployed in Fizuli. This is unofficial information. Iranian location is close to the conflict zone, and surely, Iran has concerns over its national security. We are interested in stability and its establishment,” said Iranian Ambassador.
He said that the regional conflicts must be solved without any outside forces. From this point of view he said is against the deployment of Turkish military in Nakhichevan.
“I think that this step will be contrary to Turkey’s Policy of ‘Zero Problems with Neighbors’,” said Seyed Ali Saghayan. He also pointed that Iran can play a positive role in settlement to the Karabakh conflict.
“As Iran has close relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan and other countries of the region, in particular, with Turkey, it can play a positive role,” he said.
