Preliminary investigation of Khalafyan’s case completed

The preliminary investigation of the criminal case filed on the death of Vahan Khalafyan brought to Charentsavan Police Department was completed at the Special Investigation Service of Armenia. Charge was brought against four employees of Charentsavan Police Criminal Investigation Department – exceeding and abuse of their authority. The prosecutor exercising control over legality of preliminary investigation endorsed the bill of indictment. 

According to the Armenian Prosecutor General’s press office, during the preliminary investigation, specifically, it was found out and proved that Head of Charentsavan Criminal Investigation Department Ashot Harutyunyan obviously exceeding his authority used violence against Vahan Khalafyan brought to Charentsavan Police Department, causing grave consequences.

On the basis of evidence of the preliminary investigation, charge was brought against Head of Charentsavan Criminal Investigation Department Ashot Harutyunyan, imposed under Article 309, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and against senior agents of Police M. Hayrapetyan, G. Davtyan and G. Ghazaryan under Article 308, Part 1 of the Criminal Code.
