‘Zero Problems with Neighbors’ policy yields null results
Turkey has abandoned its obligations, didn’t ratify Armenian-Turkish documents and returned to its position of preconditions in mix with threats and dictations what to do, Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan said to the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Germany, where he is on an official visit.
“Till now the only closed European border remains closed. Turkey’s failure of the process of normalisation of relations between Armenia and Turkey can be explained by invalidity of Turkish political leadership or its unwillingness,” said President Sargsyan.
“Some experts and analysts will probably add here a factor of pressure by Azerbaijan. There were western analysts who tried to satisfy that this was a temporary phenomenon for realization of home electoral processes,” said Sargsyan.
“May be, time will show it. A deeper analysis makes one conclude that in our region still exists an approach to solve problems at the expense of one's life, the approach – ‘I am strong, so I’ll tell what to do.’ The policy of ‘Zero Problems with Neighbors’ yields the null results. And this will be so until Turkey continues finding its interests in our region in the context of conflict of interests, not their correlation,” said Armenian President.
He also added: “I strongly believe that it’s time for leaders of the region to rise over the narrow political agendas and contradictions; it’s time for them to show leadership and leader’s abilities aimed towards forming the future, not living through the past. I hope we will see such kind of changes of the current generation of leaders.”
