Death toll from ethnic violence in Kyrgyzstan increases to 258
The death toll from deadly ethnic violence in the south of Kyrgyzstan has increased to 258, AKIpress reported the latest news, citing country’s Ministry of Health. Earlier officials said of 214 killed people, and on Wednesday officials said that 240 people were killed in clashes.
Meanwhile country’s official say the real number of victims is several times higher than it was reported.
“Some 2,224 people were wounded in clashes; of these 1,035 were hospitalized, and 1,198 patients received out-patient treatment," said in the issued statement.
Clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek groups broke out in the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh on June 11; after several days of clashes and violence spreading to nearby Jalalabad, hundreds of thousands of people were affected, 400,000 people are reported had been displaced by inter-ethnic fighting.
