Death toll from ethnic violence in Kyrgyzstan increases to 275
The death toll from deadly ethnic violence in the south of Kyrgyzstan has increased to 275, local officials told media Saturday.
“New reports show that 275 people were killed in the June 10-14 clashes in the south of Kyrgyzstan,” a spokesperson to the Ministry of Health said.
“Some 2,239 people were wounded in clashes; of these 1,048 were hospitalized,” officials said.
Clashes between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbek groups broke out in the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh on June 10-14; after several days of clashes and violence spreading to nearby Jalalabad, hundreds of thousands of people were affected; 400,000 people are reported had been displaced by inter-ethnic fighting. Some reports pointed at a number of nearly million people who were affected by clashes.
