Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic on Thursday appointed liberal Iveta Radicova as country’s Prime Minister thus marking the being of the first-ever female Slovak senior official on this post. The ceremony took place at the presidential palace.
Radicova, 53, former university lecturer, a leader of a grouping of the Christian Democrat parties SDKU-DS and KDH, the liberal SaS and the ethnic Hungarian Most-Hid, said the rest of her cabinet would be named on Friday morning.
"The first cabinet meeting will follow," she said, adding she wanted to inaugurate all ministers to their offices right after the meeting. She said she would like to pass a confidence vote in parliament on August 3.
