Michel Platini faints in a restaurant; heart attack ruled out
On Friday, the president of the European soccer's governing body, French football legend Michel Platini fainted in a restaurant and has been taken to a Johannesburg hospital. Medical checks showed no signs of a heart attack, UEFA spokesperson said.
"Michel Platini fell ill tonight after developing flu symptoms for the past days. He was hospitalised for tests," FIFA said.
Platini, 55, reportedly complained of feeling unwell while having dinner at Johannesburg's Le Pigalle restaurant in the Sandton business district.
"He was tired and over-worked. He also has the flu," AFP quoted close Platini aide William Gaillard as saying. "I have telephoned his secretary, who tells me that he is fine."
"There are no signs of a heart attack. Mr Platini will remain under observation as a precaution," said in FIFA’s statement.
