Expert: Gas pipeline buyer should not have political interest
"If Georgia sells the gas pipeline entering Armenia to a Turkish or Azerbaijani company, Armenia should undertake operations against Georgia if necessary,”expert Vahe Sargsyan told reporters.
“For Armenia, it is very important who is the buyer of this entity of strategic significance. We should not be concerned about it too much since the new buyer can be a better partner than Georgia,” the expert said reminding that only in the 90s, the gas pipeline entering Armenia through the territory of Georgia was blown up for 35 times because of Georgia’s carelessness.
According to Mr. Sargsyan, if Turkish and Azerbaijani companies submit an application on buying the pipeline, Armenia should combat it raising the issue at international instances.
“To sell the gas pipeline to Azerbaijan means to tie Armenia’s trachea with a thread, the end of which is in Azerbaijan. That country can throttle Armenia at any moment,” expert stressed. It is important that gas pipeline buyer should have not political but economic interests, expert considers.
