Iniesta’s goal brings World Champion’s title to Spain
Spain won the FIFA 2010 World Cup Football Championship for the first time in the World Cup history at Soccer City, Johannesburg on the night of Sunday.
Spain's Andres Iniesta scored the only goal at the 116th minutes of the game between Spain v. Netherlands. Fabregas passed the ball to Iniesta inside the box and Andres Iniesta shot the ball inside the Dutch goal post where goal-keeper Stekelenburg was to see only Spain's maiden World Cup Victory.
For the first time in 80 years of World Cups, Italy, Brazil, Germany or Argentina didn’t play the final. That broadening of football's elite is good for its popularity and future. The Netherlands came very close to victory.
Spanish team’s coach Vicente del Bosco told media that the match was difficult. “We deserved the victory, and our victory has a significance not only of sport value. We know people in all regions of Spain supported us and we know that people in Spain are walking on air. This victory continues the impetus we got in 2008 during the European championship. So we continued the game’s philosophy. The Dutch team showed a very good game, and in some sense they could tie our hands. We had a very tense game,” said Vicente del Bosco.
