Paul the Octopus, Predictor, offered refuge by Spain
Just exactly like Paul the Octopus predicted, Spain won the FIFA 2010 World Cup Football Championship for the first time in the World Cup history at Soccer City, Johannesburg on the night of Sunday. Paul foretold the winners of many World Cup matches, and the creature has been correct so far.
Paul correctly predicted eight World Cup matches, including Spain's semifinal win over Germany and their eventual championship defeat of the Dutch. And finally Spain won in accordance with his latest prediction, overcoming 1-0 the team of Netherlands.
The octopus which is currently being kept in Germany, ‘received’ death threats from rabid German fans after he had made his prediction that the Germans would fall to Spain. Spain's Prime Minister Jose Zapatero even went as far as saying that Paul could be granted refuge in Spain. Zapatero went on Spanish radio and offered Paul state protection, NESN.com reported.
"I am concerned for the octopus ... I am thinking of sending him a protective team," Jose Zapatero is quoted as saying.
