Death toll from double bombings in Uganda reaches 64
The death toll from double bombings that late Sunday struck a restaurant and a rugby ground in Uganda's capital, Kampala, has reached 64, officials said in their latest reports.
US President Barack Obama called the deadly explosions "deplorable and cowardly”: "The president is deeply saddened by the loss of life resulting from these deplorable and cowardly attacks, and sends his condolences to the people of Uganda and the loved ones of those who have been killed or injured," National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer said in a statement.
According to officials, there are several foreigners among the victims. The US Embassy said one American was among the dead. Three Americans were wounded, media reported.
Explosions attacked crowds watching the World Cup final at a rugby club and an Ethiopian restaurant. Ugandan police siad an al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group may have been behind the attacks.
