Saakashvili cites Pushkin, Lermontov, Brodsky, Yesenin…
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili hopes that Belarus will be “wise” and will not recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the President told on the air of a Belarusian TV program the day before.
According to RIA Novosti, meanwhile Saakashvili noted that “Russia keeps exerting pressure upon Belarus in the issue of recognition of Abkhazia’s and South Ossetia’s independence.” He declared that he does not understand the demands put forward by Russia.
“It is difficult to understand what they want. We have always wanted to meet them halfway, but they always demand more,” the Georgian President said implying Russia.
In Saakashvili’s opinion, strained relations between Russia and Georgia have a negative impact on presence of Russian culture in Georgia.
“I have always said that I am the last, maybe the penultimate President of Georgia who can cite Pushkin, Lermontov, Brodsky, Yesenin… A generation will change, and the new generation already will not understand what Russia is and where it is,” Saakashvili declared saying that he compels his son to learn Russian, but his son does not understand why it is important.
