National Institute of Standards ISO Council member
The National Institute of Standards of Armenia was elected ISO Council member for two-year term. The Council has 162 members from different countries, institute director Yenok Azaryan told reporters. According to him, Armenia has established contacts with almost all countries during meetings and international standardization activities.
According to him, Armenia’s nomination was supported by more than 50 countries: “Armenia is the only country in the region that managed to become a Council member.”
Note that Great Britain, Canada, U.S., France, Japan, Korea, Russia, Italy and national institutes of standards of many other countries are ISO Council members. An institute should have a representative office in Geneva to be able to work in the Council.
“Membership to ISO Council will help Armenia solve many problems in the sphere of trade,” Azaryan said adding that among products made in Armenia, only brandy and champaign correspond to ISO standards.
“Besides CIS countries, Armenia is able to export only these drinks to European and other countries, the other goods do not correspond to the standards yet, there are no respective laboratories,” institute director stressed.
