Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani to visit Armenia
NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan met with Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani the day before, within the framework of the 3rd World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva. Mr. Abrahamyan stated that Armenian-Iranian relations are high-level and keep developing in atmosphere of mutual confidence, and cooperation between Armenian and Iranian Parliaments promotes development of mutual relations. The interlocutors attached importance to the Memorandum of Mutual Understanding signed during NA Speaker’s visit to Iran in 2009 September, NA press office reported.
Hovik Abrahamyan appreciated activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups in the two parliaments saying that their mutual visits make interparliamentary ties more active.
According to the NA Speaker, cooperation between the two countries also has considerable potential in economic sphere. Hovik Abrahamyan invited Ali Larijani to Armenia to further deepen interparliamentary contacts between the two countries. The invitation was accepted with pleasure.
The sides attached importance to cooperation at international structures and mentioned that during regional conflicts and crises Armenian and Iranian authorities distinguished themselves by balanced and circumspect approaches. The Armenian-Turkish normalization and Nagorno Karabakh settlement were also discussed. The two parliament speakers stressed that conflicts should be resolved peacefully, through negotiations for the sake of regional security and stability.
Abrahamyan’s next meeting was with Speaker of UAE Federal National Council (FNC) Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair. Mr. Abrahamyan noted that Armenia attaches much importance to further development of relations with the Persian Bay and Arab countries, attentively follows regional political processes and economic achievements. He highly assessed UAE balanced foreign policy at regional and international levels. He expressed satisfaction over stable progress in Armenia-UAE relations and attached importance to achievements in trade and economic cooperation.
Hovik Abrahamyan noted that interparliamentary cooperation level is inferior to trade and economic relations suggesting making more active mutual visits of interparliamentary delegations.
The Speaker of UAE Federal National Council also stressed importance of making more active and developing interparliamentary ties mentioning that his country attaches much importance to cooperation with Armenia in different directions. Mr. Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair highly assessed Armenia’s efforts in ensuring peace and stability in the region and normalizing relations with its neighbors.
The same day NA Speaker also met with President of the National Council of Monaco Jean-Francois Robillon. The interlocutors attached importance to development of interparliamentary contacts saying that cooperation, mutual visits will promote their development. The NA Speaker also stressed necessity of cooperation at international structures. The Monaco Parliament President also attached importance to cooperation at international organizations expressing readiness for cooperation.
Mr. Abrahamyan had a detailed talk over Nagorno Karabakh settlement process with his Monaco counterpart stressing that Armenia sees problem resolution within the framework of OSCE Minsk Group only, our country does not accept any other format.
