Two quakes hit Iran injuring 15 people
Iranian media reported that strong earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.8 and 5.1 have shaken southern Iran, injuring 15 people and damaging residential buildings in four villages near the town of Lamerd.
The quakes were followed by nine aftershocks; according to some reports, the quakes damaged 30% of buildings in the four villages, on the border of the southern provinces of Fars and Hormuzdan.
The US Geological Survey said the moderate 5.8 quake jolted Iran's southern coast late Tuesday. The quakes struck at 11:08 pm local time some 160 kilometres south of Jahrom and 975 kilometres southeast of the capital Tehran, at a depth of 10 kilometres, it said.
