Ilham Aliev ignores letters from country’s intelligentsia
The Ibrus Theater of Azerbaijani capital of Baku hosted on June 30 the panel discussion with participation of Azerbaijani intelligent, intellectual, an highly educated members of society, followed by sending a letter to country’s President Ilham Aliev containing an appeal to release Eynulla Fatullayev, one of Azerbaijan's most prominent investigative journalists, founder and chief editor of the now-closed Realny Azerbaijan and Gundelik Azarbaycan newspapers, and young activists, bloggers Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade.
The request remained unanswered.
Yeni Musavat paper reported that one of the persons, who signed the letter to President Aliev, chairman of the Union of Film-makers of Azerbaijan, a writer Roustam Ibragimbekov told Mediaforum web-site that participants of the June 30 panel discussions are preparing a declaration in relation to the issue. The declaration contains numerous questions that concern the mentioned group of persons; the declaration also contains proposals which were put forward during the discussion.
The document will also highlight the fact that the intellectuals’ letter remained unanswered, said Ibragimbekov.
“Actually, this was a request to President, and it should be responded. Two months ago I sent another letter to President on behalf on the members of the Union of Film-makers of Azerbaijan, and the letter received no feedback either. State officials appear to have adopted a tradition to ignore letters from intellectuals,” added Ibragimbekov.
