NATO: We will never let overthrow the government of Afghanistan

“Dear Friends, speaking to Afghans on the street leaves no doubt about their priorities. Likewise, there is no doubt about the international community's long-term commitment to Afghanistan after today's conference in Kabul,” wrote NATO's Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, in his blog.

“Yesterday I visited a market in Jalalabad, I met a lot of people. And I asked some of them what is your strongest wish, and they said: we wish peace, security and stability, and that’s exactly why we are here in Afghanistan,” Mr Rasmussen said in a video-message from the market in Jalalabad.

“We will never let overthrow the government of Afghanistan. We will never allow the Taliban to get a save haven in Afghanistan; we will never sacrifice the basic human rights including women’s rights. We are in Afghanistan to insure that Afghanistan will not again become a save heaven for international terrorists,” he said.
