Skull found with signs of most ancient neurosurgical surgery
The archaeologists at the University in Ankara have discovered a skull with signs of the most ancient neurosurgical surgery dating up to 4,000 years ago. The skull was found at the Neolithic settlement in Canes, in central modern Turkey. It is believed belonged to an Assyrian merchant as numerous pieces found in the grave show it.
Canes of those times was a main trade colony of Assyria in Asia Minor. Experts say that the illness that caused the surgery, didn’t lead to death; the merchant lived for a long time after it.
The hole in the skull is 6x3 cm and specialists say that the surgery had been offered with a perfect professionalism.
