A Spanish tourist missing after a Turkish boat sinks
A Spanish tourist is missing at sea after a Turkish tour boat caught fire and sank in the Mediterranean, Associated Press reported.
The agency said 23 people, of these five crew, jumped into the water after flames engulfed the Kayhan-9 on its way from the Turkish resort of Marmaris to Fethiye on Wednesday night. Turkish coastguards rescued 17 Spanish and Portuguese tourists and five crew members; they were transported to the town of Fethiye for medical treatment. A Spanish citizen and two Portuguese were slightly injured, Fethiye governor Mehmet Ali Karatekeli is quoted as saying.
Rescue boats evacuated the survivors while the Turkish coast guard was searching Thursday for the missing Spaniard.
It’s unclear what caused the fire.
