Armed Forces’ leadership changes in Turkey
The Supreme Military Council of Turkey met yesterday, presided by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting addressed issues related to changes in the Armed Forces’ leadership, staff reduction.
The head of the Turkish Armed Forces Headquarters, Army General Ilker Bashbug will retire in late August. Commander of Land Forces, Army General Isik Kosaner will replace him on his position. Commander of Second Turkish Army, Army General Necdet Ozel will take up his position in three years. Hasan Igsiz will be appointed Commander of Land Forces. He will retire in a year.
The Supreme Military Council decision will be published officially on August 4, after being endorsed by President Abdullah Gul.
