10 years later, Russia remembers Kursk tragedy
Today Russia is mourning for the sailors who lost their lives in one of the greatest tragedies in the Russian Naval history, when 10 years ago, in 2000, an explosion on the nuclear powered Kursk submarine killed all 118 people on board.
Murmansk will hold the commemoration ceremony at the memorial to submarine sailors killed in peaceful times. The ceremony will be held at 11 am. Among ceremony’s attendees are Governor of Murmansk region of Russia Dmitry Dmitrienko, head of the municipal Murmansk-sity’s formation Stepan Tananykin, commanders and sailors of the Northern Fleet, representatives of the Murmansk regional office of All-Russian Movement to Support the Fleet, the Murmansk regional public organisation of veterans of the submarine fleet and submarine sailors of Russia’s Navy, the Murmansk regional office of the Union of Writers of Russia, and Center of Civil and Patriotic upbringing.
In Moscow, the ceremony will be organised at the Central Army Museum.
