New axis of evil: weapons to Hezbollah via Turkey
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera has published an article reading that a new “axis of evil” is being formed in the Middle East. According to a report by MIGnews, rockets and weapons will now be transported from Iran via Turkey to Hezbollah.
In particular, sources say that Ankara and Tehran have recently signed a secret agreement which will establish a new territorial integrity between Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hassan Nasrallah’s rebels. The route’s details were discussed at the meeting between Chief of the Secret Units of Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Hussein Taab and new chief of the Turkish intelligence service Hakan Fidan. The route reportedly will pass through territories of Syria and Turkey.
“Hezbollah feels its feet and is aware of its political significance,” says the article’s author Guido Olympio, stressing that new Turkish-Iranian agreement will make Lebanese terrorists stronger.
In his interview with Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronoth, the Italian journalists said that in his opinion, Turkey hasn’t reached the point of no return yet and hasn’t reverted the eyes from the West decisively and stepped towards Tehran.
“But the Europe is still keeping its door closed for Turkey, and Iran is a good ersatz, a strong card which can be acted out in the Middle East political games. There is time for Turkey to step back from dealing with Iran and stop supplying weapons to Hezbollah, if it decides that this would be a better step, conditionally to what it will be offered in return,” says Olympio.
