Subway in Azerbaijan’s capital to be built on people’s bones
A subway depot in Baku will be built on people’s bones: without warning the relatives and informing them about the plans, authorities launched construction works and started demolishing a Muslim cemetery in Binagady, Baku, local Azerbaijani media reported.
Reportedly, the construction works were to start yesterday in the afternoon; however, after the relatives of those who are buried in the Binagady cemetery rushed to the place, the works were temporary brought to a stop. The relatives were told that the works will be stopped, but in the evening, when the protesters went home, the construction works were started up.
The AZE.az correspondent brought to light that houses in adjoining to the cemetery territory will be crashed.
The officials said that would allocate 2 hectares of land in Sulutepe village for re-burial, however, this is contrary to Islam.
“Some of those who started an active campaign on late people’s bones told journalists that only part of the cemetery and only several graves will be demolished, and that the relatives were informed. But this was a huge surprise for many people and it turned into a pain and suffering. People are puzzled why the depot should be built on bones of their late relatives,” AZE.az reported.
