Israel rejects UN investigation into Gaza flotilla attack
Israel is not co-operating with the UN Human Rights Council's probe of the May 31 deadly raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, and is blocking from speaking to Israeli soldiers about the accident, UN officials said Tuesday.
A UN Human Rights Council investigator said the three-person panel will need to question Israeli soldiers in investigating the May 31 attack that killed nine pro-Palestinian activists, Voice of America reported citing investigator’s statement to the Associated Press made on Tuesday.
Investigators from Britain, Trinidad and Malaysia have been refused entry by Israel, which rejects the mission as biased, the official said.
Israel says it will not comment on the probe.
On Monday the UN fact-finding mission on Gaza flotilla headed to Turkey for a two-week investigation in order to interview witnesses and government officials. The mission will stay in Turkey until August 29, and then will travel to Jordan until September 4.
