Import exceeds export, and this causes concerns, says Safarian
Armenia was a powerful industrial country in the past, and during the Soviet-era times was one of the four countries whose export exceeded the import, said at today’s press conference chairman of the Union of home manufacturers, chairman of the Public Council on Financial, Economical and Budget Affairs, Vazgen Safarian.
He said that now the scope of import of Armenia is 4,5 times more than scope of export.
“In line with data of the first half of the year, export was valued at $442,8 million, while import – at $1,7 million. This makes feel concerns,” said Safarian.
He said that Armenia exports copper and molybdenum, products made from precious and semi precious stones, and food.
Vazgen Safarian also pointed that the authorities should support local manufacturers.
