UN concerned over evictions of displaced persons in Tbilisi
The United Nations Refugee Agency has expressed concerns that Georgian officials are evicting hundreds of persons, refuges displaced from Abkhazia and South Osetia, from state-owned buildings in Tbilisi, the UN Press Center said.
Recently, refugees held a range of protests against the eviction.
Georgian authorities say that displaced families are offered either financial compensation of $10,000 or alternative housing. However, refuges say they were offered housing only in rural areas where there are not job opportunities.
