Moldova celebrating the 19th anniversary of Independence
Today Moldova is celebrating the 19th anniversary of Independence.
On August 27, 1991, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the Declaration on Independence, following the Baltic nations and Georgia, Armenia, and Ukraine. A few hours after adoption of the Declaration, Romania recognized Moldova’s independence.
In December of 1991 after the Belovejskoe agreement was signed and the USSR collapsed, Republic of Moldova was recognized by dozens of nations, including the U.S., Turkey, France, Germany, and then Russia, Ukraine and other members of the newly-established CIS alliance.
Moldovan authorities approved accession to the CIS later. In 1992 Moldova joined UN, and then OSCE, Council of Europe, WTO, and Organisation of Black Sea Economical Cooperation.
