C-300 missile’s sale not in the way of Armenia’s fighting value
Prolongation of the agreement on deployment of Russian military base in Armenia’s Gyumri town is rational amid the military threats of Azerbaijan and enlargement of its military budget, said member of the ruling party of Republicans, Hovhannes Sahakian.
The lawmaker stressed the importance of terminological changes in the updated document, in line with which the geography of operation of the Russian military base has been enlarged and the guarantees of Armenia’s security have been strengthened, and both significantly.
“Such document’s signing can have a deterrent effect,” said Hovhannes Sahakian.
Referring to the rumors that Russia will probably supply to Azerbaijan missiles C-300, Sahakian said that “until now the Russian arm-manufacturer hasn’t made official statements.” He said that doesn’t consider sale of C-300 missile as a betrayal of Russia and said that in addition to Russia-Armenia relations there are Russia-Azerbaijan relations.
“In the context of our security, our capability and fighting efficiency, this doesn’t put a crimp in our way. Whether Russia will sell to Azerbaijan anything or not – is not our problem. We can’t build our foreign policy from the sale of C-300,” he stressed.
Sahakian also assured that some steps are taken in the diplomatic circles to influence the sale of C-300 missile. “We are against this, this is unwanted to us. It’s clear that statements warning against the possible deal are being directed through diplomatic channels,” he added.
