Iran planning own national search engine
Iranian authorities have announced that they are taking steps towards creating societies of the national intranets with an aim to replace the western searchers on Internet by their own national search engine.
These announcements came after the Supreme leader said is displeased that the world web is corrupting the young generation of Iranians, an Israeli paper reported citing the Voice of America.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has recently highly praised the steps towards establishment of the national Iranian search engine. And this comes as a clear indication that the country’s government is trying to strengthen control over Iranians access to the web.
Ahmadinejad said that it should start the process of creation and development of county’s own national knowledge base and its use for joint access to resources and information. He added that after this Iran will be able to spread its web over neighboring countries and, thus, become one of the global information sources.
