Armenia should conclude military alliance with Karabakh
Referring to the issue of Azerbaijan’s upcoming introduction into the UN General Assembly a resolution on Karabakh, political analyst Ervand Bozoyan said that we shouldn’t worry about it as a constructive position of key players and mediators is more important to Armenia.
For his part, political scientist Aleksandr Markarov said that one shouldn’t underestimate or overestimate decisions and that if the issue of Karabakh will be carried forward from the OSCE Minsk Group to another format, then it will harm the talks.
Ervand Bozoyan said that if Azerbaijan starts military operations in the region, then Armenia should recognize the independence of Nagorno Karabakh, conclude a military and political alliance and declare its position that is ready to ensure security of Nagorno Karabakh.
Before, in his address, Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan has referred to the same issue. Azerbaijan is making another mistake introducing into the UN General Assembly the Resolution on Karabakh, President Sargsyan said in his remarks delivered on a working trip to Nagorno Karabakh: “Acceptance or rejection of the Resolution which is to be introduced into the UN General Assembly, in all likelihood, on September 9, will influence neither political, nor the economical life of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, and won’t influence their security either.”
“Azerbaijan is making another gross blunder, and we should use this gross blunder to reach our goals. Obviously, we will take steps,” said President.
“Obviously, retaliatory steps will be taken bringing us closer to our goals. Our efforts must always have an aim that not only Azerbaijan but other countries as well could understand, that there is no way back. Nagorno Karabakh’s being as part of Azerbaijan is excluded. Karabakh is an independent state which has been developing and strengthening,” he said.
President stressed that the Resolution will probably be supported by dozens of nations and said that these can be nations that always say of their solidarity with Azerbaijan, and, first of all, these are members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
However, Sargsyan expressed confidence that nations who back the peaceful settlement to the Karabakh conflict will vote against the Resolution.
“At least, they will hold their hand, as they are well aware of that approval of such resolution can’t have a positive impact on the negotiations,” he said.
