Ukraine to become Georgia’s main wheat supplier
Ukraine will become main supplier of wheat to Georgia, said at the parliamentary session country’s Prime Minister Nikoloz Gilauri, RBK quoted him as saying citing the Georgian television channel Rustavi-2.
Amid Russia’s announcement of a ban on grain exports, Georgian government had to redirect its expectation and deal with Ukraine, said Minister Gilauri. In line with reached agreements, Ukraine will supply 150,000 tones of wheat to Georgia. This scope is perceived as enough to provide Georgian people with bread and will allow keeping the bread price growth within a 10% parameter, no more.
In addition, Georgia will import grain from other countries. This announcement was confirmed by Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Bakour Kvezereli.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili voiced concerns over a 10% bread price growth. He ordered ministers to take measures to prevent further bread and foodstuffs price growth.
