Russian military base in Armenia a peace guarantor, says Medvedev
Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has said that he stands for peace and stability for the South Caucasus.
Speaking at the joint conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliev, Medvedev said about the prolongation of the terms of deployment of the Russian military base in Armenia’s Gyumri town that “the base exists to ensure peace and order, and to preserve the stability in the region.”
“I believe that through this we are contributing to common recovery of the situation in the Caucasus and South Caucasus. It’s very important to Russia which is a Caucasian county to preserve the stability in this region. We are interested in peace and order here,” said Medvedev.
“Standing exactly from these interests, we will give instructions to our staff who are keeping the base,” added Medvedev.
