“Opening of Aghtamar church half step forward”
Domestic fight proceeds in Turkey over the opening of the Aghtamar church, Turkish expert Zafer Yoruk told a news conference.
According to the expert, the Justice and Development Turkish ruling party is resolute in carrying out reforms and fighting 90 years’ denialism in Turkey.
The Treaty of Lausanne stipulates Turkey’s commitments related to freedom of conscience, and, according to Yoruk, the opening of the Aghtamar church is among those commitments.
“Opening of the Aghtamar church is half step forward since even if no cross is fixed at the church, the church opening in itself is progress,” Yoruk said in his remarks.
