Plans to burn Koran: White House says don’t do it
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that plans to host an "International Burn a Koran Day" to protest the September 11 terrorist attacks can seriously affect the U.S. troops participating in the military operations in Islamic countries.
"Any type of activity like that that puts our troops in harm's way would be a concern to this administration," Gibbs told reporters.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who was in Washington for talks with US President Obama, said that he strongly condemns plans to burn Korans.
Meanwhile a Christian pastor from Florida has insisted he will go ahead with plans to burn copies of the Koran on September 11, despite criticism from the top US general in Afghanistan, the White House and the State Department, as well as a host of religious leaders.
