Opinion: CSTO-NATO Afghan agreement necessary
Solution of the issues of security in Afghanistan requires an agreement between CSTO and NATO, said corresponding member at the Russian Science Academy (RSA), director of the RSC Institute of U.S. and Canada Sergey Rogov.
He said that a range of measures are necessary to take to establish a new system of security with Russia’s full involvement. Sergey Rogov pointed that there is not an agreement between Russia and NATO related to Afghanistan.
“It would be a nice idea to sign an agreement between CSTO and NATO. And it’s necessary to sign it this year,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying at the World Political Forum in Yaroslavl.
He added that it’s also necessary to solve the issue of the ballistic missile defense and issue of the renewal of the treaty on conventional arms as the acting agreement was signed 20 years ago and goes wrong with realty (“irrelevant” as he described it). According to Sergey Rogov, the treat should be signed by all the European nations without distinction.
