Vladimir Zhirinovsky opposes Russia-NATO alliance
Leader of the Liberal and Democratic Party of Russia, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, argued against Russia’s accession to NATO and said backs the establishment of a new “architecture of security,” which can be built only with focus on Russia’s opinion, RIA Novosti reported.
Some experts and officials said at the World Political Forum in Yaroslavl that Russia should enter into an agreement with NATO. Igor Yurgens, chairman of the Institute of Modern Development, said Thursday that Russia must enter into an alliance with NATO for strategic cooperation and said that he doesn’t exclude Russia’s integration into the renewed block.
In response to these opinions, Vladimir Zhirinovsky told the Forum Friday: “They said that Russia to join NATO. In what role? Like Poland? To deploy Romanian troops in Caucasus to ensure the security?”
He added: “A new architecture of security is necessary.”
