Azerbaijan’s resolution aimed at resolving domestic problems
The resolution submitted by Azerbaijan to the UN General Assembly was a failure not so much owing to Armenian diplomacy’s efforts as thanks to Minsk Group co-chairing countries’ collective position, Director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan told a press conference.
“The Minsk Group co-chairing countries spoke out against the resolution to stress that the negotiation process should go on within the framework of OSCE only,” Iskandaryan said.
According to the expert, Azerbaijan submitted the resolution to UN rather to solve domestic problems on the threshold of the parliamentary elections scheduled for November 7.
“The attempts to move the negotiations to other platforms aim at resolution of domestic problems and not the Nagorno Karabakh problem,” Iskandaryan stressed.
The expert does not share the opinion that Armenia should also submit a resolution on Nagorno Karabakh settlement to UN.
