Azerbaijan: drug trafficking via Lyankaran to Europe
New details have been discovered over the clashes that had occurred between police in Lyankaran, Azerbaijan, and local residents.
In the clashed between policemen and local residents of Lyankaran region of Azerbaijan more than 30 people were arrested, and authorities declared state of emergency in the region. First reports from the stage said that clashes followed the shooting near the Mosque in Gumbashy village of Lyankaran region of Azerbaijan. One man was shot dead and another in serious condition was hospitalized with wounds in his chest. In addition, some disagreements arose after the religious leader of Lyankaran Moscue was replaced. This caused controversy among believers. Then media reported that the state of emergency in the region is caused by protests over the arrest of a leader and religious activist (he was arrested after clashes).
Meanwhile, there is one more version of what had happened. The incidents came after somewhat clashes that occurred between drug lords (who use Lyankaran as a transit zone) and police of Lyankaran and their counterparts from Baku.
Pia.az agency said citing an own source that drug traffickers are trying to transport drugs from Iran via Lyankaran to Azerbaijan and then to the Europe. Due to these plans they inflamed the situation in Lyankaran while drug lords use pro-Iranian believers to divert attention from the key issue – drug trafficking.
